On 17 July 2014, the Australian Senate voted to repeal the country's carbon tax. The repeal of the tax passed a vote in the House of Representatives earlier in the week.

The tax had been put in place in 2012 at a rate of AUD 23 per metric ton of carbon dioxide emitted by companies, and was later increased to AUD 25.
