On 13 October 2021, Austria's National Council (lower house of parliament) approved the pending social security agreement with Canada. The agreement, signed 5 July 2021, will enter into force on the first day of the fourth month after the ratification instruments are exchanged and, once in force and effect, will replace the 1987 social security agreement between the two countries.
