Germany Publishes Law for First Step in Phasing out the Solidarity Surcharge

Germany published the law to reduce the solidarity surcharge in the Official Gazette on 12 December 2019. The current 5.5% surcharge is levied on both individual and corporate income tax and was introduced with effect from the 1995 assessment period to fund reunification of East and West Germany.
