On 9 October 2020, officials from Brazil and Germany met via video conference to discuss bilateral cooperation, including the negotiation of a new income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty would need to be finalized signed and ratified before entering into force. The prior treaty between the two countries, signed in 1975, was terminated with effect from 1 January 2006.
